Overview:
We currently have multiple openings for wickedly brilliant software development generalists to work on all facets of our development initiative. This Research and Development role at Linden Lab contributes to the organization's success through expertise in real-time computer graphics, networking, and physical simulation. Qualified individuals will have a solid background in the fundamentals of Computer Science and software engineering as well as have immense passion for their chosen craft.
Responsibilities:
* Work in collaboration with the product development and programming staff to deliver software design in different areas with the utmost passion for creativity and quality.
* Contribute innovative and original ideas towards all aspects of game production and development.
* Real Time Graphics - Design and develop advanced graphics systems for 3D scene modeling. Investigate and implement new algorithms for real-time rendering.
* Network Design Help develop a networking system to be compatible with all features of the Second Life framework.
* Implement network-synchronized code, interfacing with all project subsystems including user interaction and avatar control, simulation, graphics and high-level logic.
* Physical simulation - Develop using cutting-edge physical simulation techniques and API's.
* Program core physics engine components to required coding standards.
Qualifications:
* Expert knowledge of C/C++ with at least 2 years of professional experience.
* Strong knowledge of networking, databases, physical simulation, compiler and VM design, user interfaces, systems architecture or Open GL.
* Strong knowledge in more than one of these areas is a plus.
* Proficiency with Unix/Linux use and administration a plus. Solid understanding of web technologies, such as HTML, CSS, PHP and Apache a plus.
* Experience with clustered computing a plus.
* Ability to work in a collaborative environment on really interesting problems.
* Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.
* Previous Start-up experience preferred.
